Shuckers 98 (2013)

Its late at night, and I had trouble deciding what to post about yesterday, but running across a restaurant logo I liked going to frequently in 2013 bought back memories.

Originally Shuckers Oyster Bar, the restaurant had lasted for a few years under previous ownership. A friend of mine took over the bar and wanted to change the name to Shuckers 98; a new logo, new brand, and an attempt to have a place for Southern Miss fans to flock to in West Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

And for a while, it was doing good. Unfortunately, like many restaurants, it would eventually fold and shut down in September 2013. I did notice the Facebook page that was developed for it did have an update in 2021 (new restaurant in Ridgeland, Mississippi from previous ownership?).

Getting into the graphics aspect of it, the “Shuckers” on the logo itself was created by myself instead of looking for a font. For some reason, when I was coming up with concepts for the brand, I started trying to make letters for it and it worked out. The oyster shells took a while to create with accuracy and at one point, I had the oyster shells at the bottom of the highway logo.

I think the back of the menu was the most time-consuming however; I was trying to find every single logo of the drinks they were offering and it took me about 5 hours I think altogether to gather all the logos together and make it look good. Keep in mind the internet I was working off of was “extremely” slow (it still is by today’s standards, but not as bad as back then).
